Choosing your cabinet handles and knobs can be a challenge due to the vast choice that is available at The Handle Studio Ltd, but knowing where to place them on your units can be a bit tricky, especially if you have a blank canvas to work on with no previous screw holes already drilled.

Here we will take a look at the placement of your hardware. Just remember, there is no right or wrong way, you're the one living with it, so do what feels best for you.

Many kitchen designers say that the 1/3 rule is a design guideline that will help achieve balance proportions. According to this rule, the length of the pull should be approximately one third the width of the drawer or cabinet door.

If you prefer to use a larger pull handle for a more modern look, then ideally it would be between 1/3 to 2/3 of the cabinet/drawer width. These look great on tall larder units or wide pan drawers, and can be used along with smaller standard 1/3 size handles for the smaller doors and drawers.

Cabinet knob placement can be used in a similar way. As in the image below, they can be used centrally on drawers, raised or evenly spaced. On doors, a similar trend is suggested, as long as it is comfortable and practicable for use. If placing them in the top or bottom corner of a door, a general range to use as a guide is 1 to 4 inch from the top or bottom edge.

As the drawer fronts can vary, as in the picture below, most cabinet handles and knobs can be placed where ever feels comfortable, the only exception to this is if the height of a drawer front is greater than 30cm or 12 inches - here it is recommended placing the hardware towards the top making it much easier to open.
