At The Handle Studio, the majority of our products are made of a metal of some sort, with the majority having a 'finish effect' applied onto alloy or brass.

In order to keep the metal looking as good as new it is imperative that you follow our maintenance guidelines carefully.

DO NOT CLEAN
SAY NO TO CHEMICALS

All of our products should only be cleaned with a dry cloth or mild soapy water to clean off food spillages. Under NO circumstances should any spray bleaches or detergents, abrasive cloths, paint thinners or compounds for cleaning be used. This will also apply to the very popular cleaning wipes, that have cleaning chemicals already added, as they will cause damage to the metal surfaces.

In the majority of cases, a final lacquer is applied to protect the final finish of the handle, and the chemicals in the cleaning products, will over time, start to strip away this protective lacquer and will start to attack the metal, causing peeling and pitting in the metal. We would therefore recommend only ever using a cleaning Microfibre Cloth. Any moisture on the metal products must be dried off.

Using chemicals of any description on the products causing damage, will null and void the 12 month guarantee given to all of our products.

Some of the Satin Brass finishes are what the suppliers call a "living finish". This means that the finish will naturally lighten along the edges and surfaces of frequent contact over time. Initial care for this finish requires only mild soapy water and a non-abrasive cloth. Wiping gently in a circular motion and drying with a clean soft cloth. Monthly cleaning is recommended for general hygiene and preservation of the finish. A high quality beeswax or brass polisher may be used intermittently to help preserve the finish and highlight the natural features, apply with a soft clean cloth.

If you are unsure about what to use, please contact our friendly staff who will be delighted to help. A care & maintenance guideline leaflet will be included with all orders.
